Expressing Feelings Through Creativity
Many children struggle to put their emotions into words — especially big or confusing feelings like sadness, anxiety or frustration. Creativity offers an alternative language.
Drawing, painting, movement, storytelling and performance allow children to express emotions safely and naturally, without pressure. A splash of colour, a character in a story, or a dramatic movement can say what words cannot.
Creative expression helps children:
• Release emotions in a healthy, non-verbal way
• Feel seen and understood without needing “the right words”
• Develop confidence in sharing their inner world
At The Lollipop Trust, we believe that creativity isn’t about being “good at art” — it’s about honesty, freedom and emotional release. When children are given permission to express themselves creatively, they feel lighter, calmer and more connected.
